Re: Giant igloo at Sunday River
A big money grab. $15-20 beers and drinks. Just walk in and check it out, but don't spend any money. They have a nightime cat ride down from the Jordan hotel for $85. But at least that includes a $20 voucher to use at the Jordan restaurant (which is overpriced, too). A novelty at best.

Hot off the press: New Cold Wars[ Scary as hell. All about Russia, China, Ukraine hacking of our systems by Russia , China, Iran, etc. These actors could shut down our entire power grid, water works, whatever, if we don't get our act together.

Re: Brighton/Solitude
We've stayed at the Inn at Solitude. Couldn't be more convenient. And you can connect to Brighton via the trails, so easy to do both from the Inn. Kind of quiet if you're looking for night life. They get buried big time often.

Re: Something's going on at Saddleback
Haven't skied there in a while, last time the year before they closed. We used to go up there when our kids were little because it wasn't crowded during school vacations. It's a bitch to get to. If it were closer, people would rave about it. Kind of like Magic only on a much bigger scale. Its major ...

We're on our 5th golden. My wife looked online for about a year and a half before finding our current boy. Came from Starbright Rescue in Georgia. Almost impossible to find rescue goldens. We really lucked out.

Re: Vail buying Peaks
Could some Eastern resorts now on the Ikon pass become desirable to Alterra to compete with Vail?

With Saddleback open, Rangeley might be one of the best 4 season areas in the East.

Re: Sunday River lodging
Depends on what the conditions will be and how much you want to pay. If the Summit has ski in/out, that's a good choice. Jordan is nice but too far out. Use VRBO/Home Away/Air bnb if you want a condo or house. Lots of motel options in Bethel. If you want to bring your dog, I highly recommend Paws In...

Re: Sucker buys crappy Maine ski resorts
HS, I'm impressed that you read the Washington Post. Hopefully you check out all its editorials and op-eds, too. As a Sunday River skier, I can tell you that most people there and at the Loaf are really happy with the sale. It eliminates one layer with hands in the till. People expect that Boyne wil...

Re: Thoughts after visiting Sunday River
Lunch at North Peak Lodge yesterday, $16 for a loaded Bloody Mary and $9.75 for a Pilsner draft beer $$$$$$$. Started out with 7 lifts running, by around 2 pm only 3 lifts running due to wind. It was warm and sunny at the bottom and mid mountain-really nice out. Once you got some elevation and expo...

Re: Car camping around K
Is that camp on Sunday River Rd. heading out toward Frenchman's Hole? We mountain biked out that way about a month ago. My wife stopped and looked in the windows at a camp. May have been that one. It's between the letter "S" swim area and Frenchman's Hole. It's directly across from the ol...
