Re: IKON Question

Yes! I’ve done it. Pico in the morning and K in the afternoon counts as one day.

Re: Labor Issues at Resorts

Don't forget that labor shortages were an ongoing issue long before the pandemic. To an employee, working at a ski resort is not very enticing. It's mostly seasonal work so you have to find another job in the summer, the pay is low, and they're typically located in somewhat remote locations where ho...

Re: Killington's Daily Snow Report is the Worst

Snow reports are 75% marketing, 25% information. The key is to read between the lines, with an eye to the trail count and forecast. Temperature swings plus r*in yesterday plus far fewer trails open = freeze thaw. If they’re not actively bragging about conditions, that probably means they aren’t great.

Re: Can Ikon Pass be used at Jay Peak for Discounts as an "Other Mountain Season Pass"?

Jay is usually pretty responsive to messages on IG or Facebook, but they did just have a resort-wide internet outage, so it may just take a little longer to get a response.

Re: Jay

I was also at Jay on Friday and conditions were great with the new snow. This year Tramside has been much more crowded what with the Tram not running midweek and having limitations during the weekend, so I prefer to stay at stateside. You can still take Wedelmaster from the Bonnie to access most of ...

I'm cool with that, laps on Heaven's Gate sound like a dream right now. Weather is looking promising too. We should have a dramatically different picture at all mountains next week.

Re: Wednesday 12/2/20 report

I was out most of the day, conditions were good but seemed to deteriorate, which did not jive with the amount of snowmaking and falling. Upper East Fall was definitely ROTD early on. Down by the mixing bowl there was a wide variety of chunky, granular, and a few icy spots. DD Headwall was okay but a...

Re: What other VT ski area's are open now?

Yeah, I’m of two minds on that. First, I’d be there on opening day late November if it had happened. However, having done that last year, Spring Fling and the green trails on gate house get boring very fast. On the other hand, I like the idea of starting the season strong with ripcord and organgrind...

I’m at k right now. Yes, 4 seems like an exaggeration, even for the peak. 2 max.

Re: sunday 11/29 report

Boozetan - I also learned at Sundown. Middle school ski bus made a huge difference.
First VT mountain was Ascutney (RIP), and it blew my mind. Then I moved my way up; Okemo > Killington > Stratton > Jay and Sugarbush.

Re: What other VT ski area's are open now?

Sugarbush just pushed their opening day to December 10...or later. This is their third time pushing the opening day this season.

Given the forecast, I don't blame them. But my ikon pass is extremely useful at K right now. I'll be there tomorrow.

Re: Ski Season Is at Risk, Especially for Vermonters

This article seems a tad biased, but I understand since it's written from the perspective of a New Yorker looking North. I was a New Yorker until last year when I moved to VT. I couldn't have picked a better time. Were I still a New Yorker, I would be currently losing my mind over the prospect of no...

I swear, I have yelled "on your left" and had people mis-hear me and think I want them to veer left. A lot of times it is just safer to wait for them to turn away from me, and blaze ahead.

Re: Vermont Resorts Shutting Down

Smuggs just announced they are staying open!!! By my count they are the only VT mountain left, and one of the few in the northeast.

I hope this motivates some of the others to reopen soon.

There's something to be said for a mountain that doesn't have corporate overlords dictating what to do...
