After debt was taken care of they lost over $5.9 million for fy 2006. For just the fist half of fy 2007 they had already lost $8.7 million compared to the $5.2 million lost the first half of fy 2006.
Aren't you a non-K employee and only 18 you've said or very close to that age?

Or are you going to be wasting your time posting your gripes here?
Or address this matter in a way that will get the attention from the new owners?

Nah, Tom and Dave would have said "Now I must really sound like ..." not "Know I must really sound like ..." :P

I don't miss HS and I didn't see anything he said about you, I don't think you're Dave and Tom ... either you work for K or you smoke some good stuff!

Many of your points I agree with, however.

Amen to your amen. Maybe you can hire skiingsnow, if he isn't already connected to Killington. He seems to do a better job doing your job than you do, although that doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment, if you think about it.

How much do they pay you, again? Maybe it's a barter system. Two chickens and one cow per pay period?

Oh, and skiingsnow... "They told you exactly what to expect for season length before passes even went on sale"? Oh, really? Aren't YOU the person responsible for the following quotes?
It just says they are ending all the events in succession by April 13th, and a big party to go out with a bang, but Dave doesn't specifically say that April 13 is the last day of the season, he says all events ending by then, and they will be going out with a bang, bu doesn't say that bang will happen on April 13. Maybe it will, but it doesn't say that they will be going out with a bang on April 13, to me, just my opinion, I could be way wrong, idk. But from my original post in this thread it was just like I thought I remembered, but I think they said the same thing last year about one of the last events of the season, "come say good bye to the season with blah blah blah" But I believe it was weeks before May 6.
And...
The "closing April 13" that people are talking about... where was that said again? The only thing I think I remember is an event that says it will be "the farewell" event or something, they said this last year for one of the last events at bear, that it was a farewell to a great season, but it didn't actually mean the end of the season, it was weeks before May 6.
And...
I think its awesome that they came up with their season's expected opening and closing days... Nov 15ish to April 15ish sounds fine to me, that would only be one week less then last season. And I dont like spring snow, so I really dont care if they reduce the end of the season. And all of these dates are weather dependent, if they could open earlier w/ everyone else then I bet they will, and if they could stay open later due to record breaking late season snowfall like this past season, then I bet they will stay open later too... It all goes back to the underpromise and over deliver idea. They aren't going to promise early Nov to early May, even with the weather dependent line, because if thats not what was able to happen because of the weather, people will still be pissed and say they didn't do enough.
You wrote ALL of these AFTER the pass prices were announced. So, for God's sake, PLEASE don't lecture the rest of us on what K-Marketing did or did not tell us "exactly what to expect" before, during, or shortly after the pass prices were announced. Even YOU had your own ever-shifting interpretations and faith-based predictions of what the actual opening and closing dates might be.

The only difference now is that, with X number of passes already sold and X number of dollars in revenue already pocketed, K-Marketing has only now publically finally revealed the REAL honest-to-God opening and closing dates.

So, does your Killington nametag actually say "skiingsnow", or does it display your real name?

They had said that they expected the season to run from mid november, to mid april THE SAME DAY passes went on sale. I was wrong when I said before, but it was at the same time... They were in the same press release with the prices with what you were buying and what was new going on. Anyone who was buying a pass had to see all this info to find the website and/or the phone number to call to get their pass.

Nobody was ever mislead, or wasn't given an anwser on what to expect for season length. Since passes were released they have since given everyone an exact date of opening and closing. Both dates are what they told you to expect, mid november and mid april. Someone is already complaining that they "bought passes to the wrong mountain" because the season is going to be shorter... but everyone new what to expect, not exact dates which I was unsure of, but were told mid month, which is what we now have specific dates for.

So yes, they did tell you what to expect for season length when passes went on sale. Nobody bought a pass without knowing what they were getting, it was very clearly layed out.

What East Coast mountain is going to step in to "fill the void" in season length left by Killington abdicating the throne?

IF nobody else on the East Coast steps up to fill the void and offer early and late season skiing, what then?

will you travel west or just deal with the shorter season out here?
Didnt Okemo close April 22nd last year?

Bush and SR will for sure. Attitash keeps good snow cover in the spring but historically closes early. Things may change in NH for spring.....

with a projected early close, it'll be interesting to see just how much sooner they abandon snow making and trail repairs

Two things....

1) Yes I do feel mislead. When I called to buy the pass the person I talked to was non-committal about closing dates and suggested that I write to the mounatin about my concerns (which I did).

2) Good D*mn thing we bought Okemo/Stratton/Sunapee passes too. At least we will have somewhere to go when Killington closes

You didn't stop and think that maybe you should take a look at killington.com to see what was up? You were there looking at prices and options right? why didn't you read the few paragraphs that explained what was new? It was there, and not hidden in any way... with such a large investment, and the fact that new people are running the mountain, why wouldnt you have taken a look around the website before buying the passes and not having a clue as to what you were getting?

No noticible improvements - (safe and running lifts would be high on my wish list- no huge expectations).

AND

A shorter season!!

They almost had me caving in until I thought about season length. Season length is the key. Basically we we bought our passes in previous years knowing that we needed to get in at least 5 or 6 days after April 1st weekend to make it worth it to us.

If they can't commit to stay open as long as possible ie. May 1st at a minnimum, then I don't think we can make the pass work.

So you bought your pass on Friday July 27. Yet on June 18 you specifically say that you understand that you are getting a shorter season! Yet you blame the person on the phone for not commiting to anything about closing dates... yet you had already said that you new you were getting a shorter season, you knew you were getting a shorter season from the killington website its self or on here, right?, which it was made very clear in a dozen different threads here "ONLY MID NOV TO MID APRIL!" and right on the same page as all the pass options on K.com

You have just summed up perfectly why Killington will not stay open late this spring. For new owners of a financially struggling company to continue to operate late into the spring and continue to pay its operating expenses with little hope of generating any significant additional revenue would be stupid.
You just made their case.
As an aside, I think it's been said here that Killington has actually operated under a profit each year, but ASC's debt and other resorts ate up all the profit K generated.
There was a $73,000 profit for fy 2006 before any debt was paid. That does include depreciation of assets and amortization which added up to $8.1 million, which the amount that is deprecation they didn't actually lose, but the assets are worth that much less, which would mean that much more in capital, although no one can say how much of that $8.1 million was only depreciation and is actaully cold hard cash . After debt was taken care of they lost over $5.9 million for fy 2006. For just the fist half of fy 2007 they had already lost $8.7 million compared to the $5.2 million lost the first half of fy 2006.
You're making it way too complicated for your brain.

They had a $8+M operating profit. Depreciation is nice to know about, but it's main relevance is to paying taxes and a guage of how much capital reinvestment is needed. Of that $8 million, ASC took $6 million to pay debt, and then re-invested $2 million in Killington.

Peak resorts at Mt. Snow will be sure to step it up. Maybe even Attash too.

I calculated last month that Killington had to spend about $350,000 to $500,000 to make the snow and groom it for Thanksgiving weekend last year. Thankfully for them, they had hordes of people there and at least were able to make some of that money back. The full K-1 opening is extremely expensive, especially in marginal temps. It will be interesting to see if they go with a K-1 opening, or superstar.

I think it's entirely possible that we'll see Mt. Snow open a full two weeks earlier than Killington, on Nov. 3rd. On the north face with uploading and downloading. Then a rapid expansion to top to bottom by veterans day weekend. They have the fan guns which makes it much cheaper to blow snow in marginal temps - so they are taking less of risk that it will melt away. We'll see.
