At one time, Killington did well over a million skier visits per year. This was a combination of day ticket sales, an allocation of season passes and the addition of other visits such as comps, etc. ASC released these numbers as did SKI and it's predecessor corporation going all the way back to the early days of the Killington ski area. In ASC's final year, their announced number was, if I recall correctly, just about 795,000. I don't remember for sure but I think that was also the year that they changed from the allocation method to actual scanned count of season pass days.

In Powdr's first year of ownership, the estimated drop off was something like 100,000 - 150,000 bringing their total down to somewhere between 650,000 and 700,000. Okemo announced 640,000 skier visits that same year and, while Killington obviously dropped quite a bit, I was told by one in the know that they were still ahead of Okemo. Since then, Killington has been holding even or growing slightly each year including Pico sales which, I am also told, jumped last year due to their new pricing plan that made Pico more accessible to locals.

Killington is probably still #1 in the east but doesn't compare to several resorts out west which break a million.

GEOFF was tracking the traffic counters on the access road. Number of cars is somewhat relative to skier visits and in the past 2 seasons that number was down. Some error occurs due to lack of count on East Mountain Road and other access points.

We've guessed in the past that they're now down to somewhere between 650,000 and 700,000. Could be a bit more than that.

That chopper obviously hit the electric wires and ripped the Rotor right off. We install 3 "wire strike " cutters on the Blackhawk 1 on the foremost sliding fairing that covers the Servo's and Hyd. pumps and 1 just below each Landing gear strut just above the rubber tire . The cutters prevent what that picture depicts .

Which Western resorts fare that well? I'm thinking Vail and Whistler probably. Perhaps Aspen-Snowmass. What about Park City?

I would guess more like Winter Park, Loveland Basin, A-Basin, Keystone, Breakinridge and Copper due to the proximity to Denver. Vail / Beaver Creek also gets lots of day trips or weekenders from the front range. I made the mistake of driving up to the tunnel on a Saturday morning. Way too much traffic and it was mid December. I opted for an early exit and skied Loveland.

Makes sense to me. Whistler has to get a lot of visits too. Easy to day trip from Vancouver and it's by far the best game in town, so I bet it monopolizes the area.

Back in the East, how about Tremblant? It probably makes a lot of skier visits from Montreal and Quebec.

I know they're not releasing these numbers, but any estimates? Geoff would have some ideas, but he's MIA.
The numbers really depend on the Asian Invasion...ie, how many Asians are expected to come...dummied down for the simple minded.

Googling around it is hard to find a top ten list but I found this.

Whistler Annual Skier visits sits around 2 Million

Vail had a banner year last year at 1.75 milllion skier visits with Vail Resorts 4 mountains tallying a total of 5.33 million skier visits(Vail, Beaver Creek, keystone, Breckenridge).

The entire state of colorado almost hits 12 Million skier visits.

All of the Utah resorts together had 4.2 million skier visits.

The 7 Tahoe resorts had a total of 3.6 Million skier visits last year.

Mt Bachelor Oregon does around a Million skier visits a year.

Vermont as a whole state did 4.3 million skier visits(or slightly higher than utah.... hard to believe)

Tremblant is a great ski destination with the Village and plenty of ski on/off lodging had several great trips up to Tremblant, actually does more of a summer business than it does in ski season. 770,000 Skier visits with 1,230,000 in summer.

More than 700,000 skier visits, 230,000
summer lift rides, totaling more than 2 M
visitors annually from Quebec, Canada, the
U.S., the UK, Mexico, Japan and other
countries.
Cogito, ergo sum

Sometimes it is that simple.

There can be traffic there on a Tue. morning non-peak season if Loveland pass is closed -every hour or so, they shut the tunnel down to traffic to let hazardous material trucks through the tunnel. All the times I've driven up there, I have come across traffic more times than not - I just build it into estimated time to get where I want to go as a rule.
