Dickc wrote: Dec 27th, '21, 19:43 I'm over 65, have had the J&J and 12 days ago a Moderna booster. I have been a bit uncomfortable with some stuff on the news about the J&J not having a very good response to the new variant. The Moderna booster is a half dose of Moderna, so I'm not sure how much protection that dose offers. I've ridden a gondola this fall (Loon), but it was weekday, and everyone was taking their own car as there was almost no line. I just am not going to ride an enclosed lift unless I can ride alone without disrupting others. If its crowded, I just will ride open air lifts. I am just being risk adverse as I am in an age group where that is a reasonable precaution. I am not going to be a "Karen" and refuse to let others ride with me on busy days, I'll just ride chairs where there is plenty of moving air. I'd rather stay home and not inconvenience others if the only choice is an enclosed lift. MY CHOICE. I have options on where I can ski, so I will tailor my days to my preference. After all the back trouble, I'll still be able to get a lot of days, and will not be upset if I miss a day or two because of my choices.
You should get a good T cell boost from that shot. Which are the cells you want primed if you are exposed. Did you feel crappy when you got it? If yes, you got the system ready. Your J&J dose will provide B-cell protection. They last longer, but take time to mount an offense against the enemy. Good luck. The best option is to reduce risk where you can, but you have to live as well.

You're correct. I rode the gondola and ended up in one with about 4 folks not wearing masks. Glad I was sitting by the door and the window open and I had my double masks on because I am immune compromised.

It is amazing how self entitled some people are to not follow the simple rule of wearing a mask when the resort clearly asks you too.

It's unrealistic to expect perfect compliance, particularly if the rule is completely unenforceable. Not sure why this comes as a surprise.

No it isn't surprising that there are a pretty good handful of people out there who are so self-entitled that they believe the rules don't apply to them.

People ignore it because they know it's just theater, because wearing a mask sucks, and because they're almost certainly going to get away with it. When you drove to the mountain, did you ever exceed the speed limit? Why are you acting so entitled and believe the rules don't apply to you?

I will give those not wearing masks in gondolas yesterday a brief pass as this policy is new. Mask compliance entering lift lines last season was pretty good. Usually all it took was a gentle reminder to those not having their mask up. I suspect that's all that''s needed to improve compliance.

Perfect attitude Dick. I think we need to be a little realistic about people's behavior at this point and accept the conditions as they are. If a gondola with the unmasked is going to make you nervous, skip the gondola; if you don't want the bubble down, don't ride the bubble. If a store requires a mask, put on a mask or don't go in. I get that people want rules followed so they can ride the gondola, but there is no way to enforce it; you can choose to argue with people or you can just be happy and go on with your day.

I hate wearing masks so on a busy day where I would not be able to ride the gondola alone I just won't ride it. Even before covid I always avoided the gondolas anyway so no big loss.

So if a store requires a mask put on a mask or dont go in, but if a resort requires a mask on a gondola don't worry about it because the people who are willing to follow the rules just shouldn't ride the gondola?

While I would not ride the gondola without a mask on many people will. If you are immune compromised or generally uncomfortable with covid it's probably in your best interest to avoid the gondolas.

I'm not saying that's how it should be, but that is the reality. I'm not comfortable being on a gondola with unmasked strangers, so I'll avoid the gondola; I'm out here for the stoke, not to argue with others to wear their masks.

Actually I was one of the first to get into the gondola - I was on the single line. I got added to a gondola containing 2 people and then the 4 who were unmasked got put inside too probably from the single line too.
